Playing the Wind
Club up into, smooth downwind—commit and simplify.
The Concept
Wind exaggerates spin and curve. Fight it less—adjust club & trajectory lightly. Into wind: more club + lower finish. Downwind: normal club + smooth tempo. Crosswind: start ball slightly into wind, let it ride.
Avoid forcing a "hold off" swing; maintain sequence.
Adjustment Rules
- Into: +1 club for every ~10mph / shorten finish
- Down: Normal club / balanced tempo / accept extra carry
- Cross: Start line 5–10 yards into wind side / stock flight
- Quartering: Combine small +club and start line tweak
The Drill
Wind Matrix Practice
On breezy range: Hit 3 sets of 4 balls (Into / Down / Cross). Declare adjustment before each swing.
- Into: +1 club, lower finish
- Down: stock, smooth tempo
- Cross: aim stick into wind side
Goal: Solid contact & predictable start line—distance variance is expected.
Track in ClearCut
- Improved proximity on windy holes
- SG:Approach steadier despite conditions
- Less short–short or long–long patterning
TL;DR
Adjust club and start line, not your entire swing. Simplify the wind.
