Short Game: First Putt Matters
Two putts start with one good leave. Your short game sets up your putting. Make the first putt short and straight.
Core Idea
Leave yourself an easy first putt. A 6–10 ft uphill, inside line beats a dicey 20–30 ft swinger. Your Strokes Gained Putting improves when your first putt is simple.
Practice Routine (Up-and-downs)
- Pick 5 chipping spots around a green.
- Hit 3 balls from each — focus only on your leave.
- Goal: Inside 10 ft, uphill or straight. Track how often.
Track it in ClearCut
- Approach proximity: Record your first putt distance.
- Putts: Log 0–5 putts (yes, hole-outs count!).
- Hazards: Bunker/Penalty toggles to capture context.
TL;DR
Short game leaves build easy first putts. Your scorecard says thanks.
